Also, there seems to be a distinct aversion to commas, what did the comma ever do to you? It also irritated me that the author name-dropped so many places and streets around Sheffield – ok, I get it, you went to Sheffield to do research, beroie done, now please stop showing off.

What an emotional story which generally made my heart break into two. So why the three star rating I hear you ask? Although I feel that the topic about teen pregnancy was covered well, the overall feel of the story I found was quite depressing.

I have read emotional stories in my time but I read this story when I was having a really down dexr and it made my sadness increase further. This story is about Helen and Chris, a couple in love and tryin All I can say is dkherty. Helen writes down how she feels and addresses the unborn baby as Dear Nobody.

The ending of the story did make me cry but without wanting to give things away, again, I could tell beforehand what was going to happen at the end and this time, I was half right. Maybe I was the wrong target audience for this story, I really don’t know. Maybe I just read the story on the wrong day in the wrong frame of mind. But it simply wasn’t for me. I found parts too upsetting to ddear.

I do recommend the story though to anyone who is interested in the teen pregnancy topic and the inner thoughts of a teen mother to be. Oct 25, Milka rated it liked it Shelves: Chris and Helen are both studying on high school.

Dear Nobody

I decided to read this book as a part of the read-a-thon because it is pretty short. I think the book is just a perfect lenght, I am happy Doherty did not put too much stuff into it to make it longer. Doherty tells a beautiful story about love and making choices. Doherty uses beautiful language throughout the book to describe how the bond between Helen and her unborn baby is created. A light and easy read with a deeper message. Es un libro entretenido aunque un poco deprimente en algunos aspectos.

This is a good story, even if it doesn’t have a fairytale ending. Dec 18, Lucy rated it really liked it Shelves: Berlie Doherty skill lies in writing. What always amazes me is how beautiful a book can be written — especially if it is short. In this YA book, which is about teenage pregnancy, documented month by month.

I thought the two main characters were very well fleshed out. As for the topic of teenage pregnancy, I thought it was very well handled in this book. Howe Berlie Doherty skill lies in writing. However, it did leave an unmistakable taste of Waterloo Road in my mouth. That said I really did enjoy reading this! The sort of day that never really starts, when daylight hardly happens and night folds in by mid-afternoon, hushing everything back to sleep again.

I thought this was a very realistic account of what might happen to a teenage couple when the girl gets pregnant.

At first I had trouble understanding why Helen did what she did, but it was clear at the end it was the right thing. My only issue with it would be that it is so negative – Noboey ended up feeling sorry for just about everybody in the story, including the older generations and the baby.

It would probably succeed in making teenagers take more to avoid pregnancy, but it would be a depressin I thought this was a very realistic account of what might happen to a teenage couple when the girl gets pregnant.

The only reason I can see that it is pigeon-holed as a teenage fiction is that the two main characters are year-olds — nothing else.

The story is beautifully told, the characters well-rounded, and their emotional life made real. It tells of family, inheritance, and growing up.

There is an dpherty to detail in the st Although a Puffin book because it is marketed as teenage fiction, Dear Nobody is a lot more grown up than much of the juvenile nonsense that passes for adult fiction these days.

There is an attention to detail in the story-telling that places you there as a reader: I love the way the novel has aged — taking you back to a time when teenagers had to conduct romances in whispered voices from telephones in the hall or from public phone boxes. It is a shame, but perhaps it is not regarded as doing a book many favours in its marketability to tie it too closely to a region. One small annoyance was the creeping in of errors in the Kindle version: Not what you expect from Penguin.

I had to read this for school and I think it is safe to say that otherwise, I would’ve never even heard of and definitely never read this book. Cinematic Unisystem

From Radioactive to Riches: Licensed RPGs have been around virtually since the beginning of the hobby. That is, people on RPG forums profess to being huge fans of these systems, but the actual utility of them, even amongst serious hobbyists at the time, seems like it might be somewhat less.

Today, the licensed game market seems primarily filled by Margaret Weis Finematic, who have recently produced a whole slate of film-and-TV-inspired games: Several of these games have quickly become favorites not only with RPG-playing fans of the properties, but with systems aficionados interested in some of the tricks the games have used to better recreate the feel of a TV show or movie.

Their books featured full color throughout, decorated with screencaptures and production photos from the show.

System Review: Cinematic Unisystem, Part 1 | System sans Setting

My experience with the system in ccinematic play is far less than either of the previous system entries. I played for several sessions of a Buffy game, ran a couple of sessions of Angel, and considered starting several other games using the system. You could run pretty uniwystem anything with it, provided you were willing to leave the genre simulation up to the actions of the players and GM and rely on the system to handle the physics of the world.

This has two interesting variations:.

This has two interesting variations: Functionally, with the d10 randomizer, this means that a terrible roll for an expert can be equaled by an amazing roll by a beginner. Meanwhile, supernatural characters can go up to 10 on individual stats. This serves to break play into tiers of competency: For example, if the result was 15, looking on the chart this is described as 4 — Very Good.

If the GM had set the task as a Very Good difficulty, this would have succeeded and would have been, de facto, DC 15, but hey. The interesting thing about the chart is how it scales.

Up to 4 successes, another success level is a 2 point increase on the roll. Then 5 successes covers unisysten 4 point spread of results.

After 5, each result covers a 3 point spread. Then supernatural skill level is actually somewhat compressed: Personal The Tekh Organization.

The deployment of the growth uournal the Great Tunis, over its immediate zone of influence, was carried journa, tardily and extensively in the absence of a functionality set up on the spatial division of labor and of a quality differential adequately settled. The operating processes within the peri-urban and rural neighbouring zones, together with the small and average-sized towns in the neighbourhood, km end km from the capital, have created a large integrated zone of metropolitan solidarity in the North-East areas: One is the industrial harbor Bizerte and Menzel Bourguibathe other is a tourist one Nabeul and Hammamet.

However, tourism and industry are no longer the only vectors of this opening up and of this metropolity. The new choices and projects on the sport-congress-culture and logistic and transport activities will contribute to strengthen the Tunis metropolitan zone of solidarity and to joufnal it to the South through a metropolitan trunk road assuming the junction of the North-East to the Sahel of Sousse.

These two sets will shape a triangle representing the most competitive space of the country around a central metropolitan zone modernized, rehabilitated and more open. This triangle will be reinforced towards the South by evident master positions.

That foresees, then, a deep reorganization of the Tunisian space in witch this competitive triangle, undergoing massive changes today, would take more and more land.

Rome and Her Monuments: Some of the areas we publish in include: His intended audience is [American] undergraduates and more advanced students. Though Wallace selects the most interesting texts from an historical point of view, these will be students of linguistics, rather than of Roman history, herchlaneum the notes on the texts are largely philological. Technical terms clearly explained in the introduction abound, ‘monophthongization’ being particularly common. He reminds us that Latin was an everyday language, full of variations in spellings, even when the graffiti is a quotation from Ovid or Virgil, and colloquialisms.

My favourite is da fridam pusillum which, with the help of the accompanying drawing, we can translate as ‘Give me a drop of cold water’. The book contains a full vocabulary list though this does not really do justice to some colloquialisms. Secundus hic cacat does rather lose its impact if translated in accordance with the vocabulary list ‘Secundus defecates here’.

Wallace is also reliable in historical notes, though he seems not to realize that annual magistracies in Pompeii ran from July 1, rather than January 1, as can be shown from Caecilius’ wax tablets so a set of games announced in February his no. Some facsimiles of inscriptions are included, taken with due acknowledgement from the drawings in Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum IV, though without the measurements provided there. Wallace offers several opportunities for teachers use in the classroom, at any level, for a variety of courses: Latin language, introductory Roman civilization or the Roman culture of The book is written for the intermediate college or advanced high school levels and provides a useful glimpse into both the daily life of the Romans and the colloquial use Latin by the lesser known half of Roman society.

The dialect and changes in the language also show to the upper level reader how inscription of Latin developed. The inscriptions would be an excellent component of a course about ancient Roman society, in which both the culture of well-known personages as well as that introducfion citizens and slaves on the street is discussed.

Bolchazy-Carducci: An Introduction to Wall Inscriptions from Pompeii and Herculaneum

The examples show real Latin in real contexts. Knowing the language is not necessary in order to understand the topics addressed, or even the linguistic changes. The book contains different illustrations, 24 of which are reproduced as facsimiles as well. The teacher would probably want to put an example on an overhead for the class, in order to point out the abbreviations, typical structure and style, hegculaneum in forms loss of –m ending, orthographic changes in vowelsand then demonstrate a reading or interpretation, and follow with elaboration on the cultural interest.

The facsimiles especially bring the students closer to the Roman writer and the wall, by showing various styles, artistic flourishes, and the actual style of writing, not entirely legible until compared with the reproduction or with the help of the notes or teacher. By presenting on an overhead some of the facsimiles or the reproduced illustrations, the teacher can explore linguistic or cultural topics, to enrich students acquaintance with the Romans about whom they are reading or studying.

The illustrations are organized by categories. pompeji

The electoral announcements; advertisements for rentals and sales; lost and found notices; public acclamations and salutations; and curses and insults reflect everyday, commercial, and romantic life of the Romans, specifically those in Pompeii and Herculaneum. The gladiator advertisements can be used to demonstrate different forms of dress, winning and losing, styles of fighting, as well as understanding of this form of entertainment.

Some of the miscellaneous entries I. The short sentences illustrated cases and declension endings with the pungent intent of an insult; the other graffiti showed how both soldiers and gladiators wanted to proclaim their presence. Culture will be easily introduced through reading the inscriptions, but understanding a little Latin can also be readily introduced through looking at the inscriptions for cultural purposes. This edition is a representative selection of the various types of inscriptions, from political manifestos to gladiatorial announcements, found in the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

These inscriptions, painted and incised on the walls of public and private buildings, document aspects of daily life in the first century A. Inscriptions, particularly graffiti, were often written by less educated members of society, and as such provide a rare glimpse of common Latin. Read more Read less.

There is a website that has an exhaustive biography of Arthur Honegger.

– DocDroid

Arthur Honegger was a Swiss composerwho lived a large part of his life in Paris. He was a member of Les Six. His most frequently performed work is probably the orchestral work Pacific 1which imitates the sound of a steam locomotive.

He continued to study through the sbefore writing the ballet Le dit des jeux du monde ingenerally considered to be his first characteristic work. Honegger had always remained in touch with Switzerland, his root country, but with the outbreak of the war and the invasion of the Nazishe found ijtrada trapped in Paris.

He joined the French Resistanceand was generally unaffected by the Nazis themselves, who allowed him to continue his work without too much interference, but it is said that he was greatly depressed by the war.

Nonetheless, between its outbreak and his death, he wrote his last four symphonies numbers two to fivewhich are quite frequently performed and recorded. Although Honegger was a member of Les Sixhis work does not typically share the playfulness and simplicity of the other members of that group.

I strongly encourage you to get acquainted with a few and develop your own opinion to the interpretation. Notice in the opening three measures how every other note is preceded by a half step. One could use these somewhat as leading tones to create ihtrada direction in the line. In the following clip I play the first three measures in three different ways.

Phrasing with the core melody in mind.

One of the big issues in this piece is figuring out where to breathe. Honegger goes from measure 4 through 17 without any rests or breath marks! In this next clip I offer two breathing suggestions.

Masterclasses

The first pass makes the most sense to me musically but the inttada pass sets off the contrast between the intervallic stilted rhythmic material with the more flowing scalier material better. When I get to the sixteenth-note passage in measure 8, I breathe honegyer beat two to keep the running sixteenths together. In my first pass I breathe after beats 1 in measures 10 and My logic here is to try to maintain the architecture that is established in measure 4 where the phrase obviously begins on beat 2.

In the second pass I breathe after beat 3 of the same measures so that beats 4 can serve as a pickup to the following measures.

Honegger – Intrada – All Things Trumpet

Remember, all these phrasing ideas are just suggestions. Take what you like, leave the rest. The entrance pickup before rehearsal 2 is a tough one; coming in on a soft, low G after moments earlier wailing on a high C and B.

Honegger was obviously a string player! Anyhow, a lot of players like to make the material between rehearsals 2 and 3 four and sometimes five phrases by breathing after the long notes in the middle of the two big phrases.

Transition hnegger firmer articulation and rhythm at rehearsal 3 to begin the set up for the Allegro at Set the Allegro section tempo at whatever rate you can triple-tongue the passage beginning at Pay attention to note length values throughout this section.

Honegger writes half-notes, quarter-tied-to-eighths and quarter-notes, I believe for a reason. The tendency at rehearsal 4 is to turn everything into half-notes and create a hemiola effect 2 over 3.

Rehearsal 4 through 5. I justify breathing after beats 2 in and to maintain the same shape the phrase begins with in That being said, I think I prefer breathing on the barline at rehearsal 8. The entire series diabli written by Richard A. According to the Diablo Wikithe events that take place in The Sin War trilogy take place around years before the darkening of Tristram.

Those of you who have been playing the games since the original Diablo will recognize the town of Tristram as the setting in which Diablo I and the Hellfire expansion ths place. Readers quickly learn that, in the years before this story begins, Uldyssian lost almost his entire family to a plague. The only one who survived was a younger brother, named Mendeln.

Now, the two brothers are running their farm, which is located just outside a small town called Seram. Mendeln is not much of a farmer, but he tries. It is well known that he holds a grudge against both the Cathedral of Light and the Temple of the Triune.

Diablo: The Sin War Trilogy, Book One: Birthright Q&A

Achilios is deeply in love with a young woman named Serenthia, who is the daughter of the man who runs the trade center of Seram. Unfortunately, Serenthia is very much in love with Uldyssian, who has absolutely no interest in her. She is about a decade younger than Uldyssian, and he still sees her as a child.

In the beginning of the book, Uldyssian meets a noblewoman named Lylia. She is beautiful, dressed more richly than anyone else in Seram, and traveling alone. Just when you think this book is going to be a series of love triangles, taking place in a quasi-medieval setting, Knaak delivers the darkness that those of us who play the Diablo games have come to expect, and enjoy.

Two especially violent murders take place, which Uldyssian gets blamed for. Shortly after this, it appears that Uldyssian has somehow, unexpectedly, developed powers. You may have already guessed that these five characters continue to be an important part of the story. Demons unexpectedly jump out of the darkness. Some of the mysterious powers that Uldyssian has suddenly developed can be used to do good, as well as evil.

Other questions are left to be answered in the next book hopefully. In other words, it is a satisfying ending, but it does leave some loose threads. This sort of thing always makes me want to start reading the next book in the series, right away.
